Formed in London in 1994 by Williams Cumberbache (b. 18 May 1966, Caracas, Venezuela; percussion), Tumbaito quickly established themselves as one of the leading bands in Britain’s thriving Latin/salsa dance scene. Based around the nucleus of Cumberbache, Nico Gomez (b. 20 September 1964, Nice, France; bass, vocals) and Nestor Garcia (b. 12 November 1964, Las Palmas, Spain; guitar, keyboards, vocals), with regular support from other musicians including Nino Rocha (vocals), Paul Booth (saxophone) and Roland Perrin (keyboard, ex-Evidence), the band performed at clubs and festivals throughout the UK, and in 1997 they were invited to Jordan to give a private performance for Royal Prince Hussein. In the same year, they released their debut, Otros Tiempos, which showcased their mix of various Latin American styles with gritty jazz and funk influences. Cumberbache also runs percussion workshops, acts as a music consultant to advertising agencies and works as a session musician (he has featured on recordings by Cathy Dennis, Hanny and Sierra Maestra).
