Cinematic, ethereal, evocative: just some of ways the immersive work of Kolkata’s Parekh & Singh has been described since the release of their debut album, Ocean, in 2013. Originally the solo project of singer and multi-instrumentalist Nischay Parekh, he and percussionist Jivraj Singh mix easy melodies with sophisticated songcraft for an inimitable take on dream pop. Drawing from a sonic palette that ranges from ’60s soul to synth-pop, alt-rock and folk, the pair make music that’s as bright and memorable as their vividly coloured suits.
