Formed in London in 1977, The Psychedelic Furs had already enjoyed UK chart success with their first four albums of Bowie-inspired arty post-punk when one of their old singles featured on the era-defining film Pretty in Pink and its massively successful soundtrack, on which the Furs were prominently featured. That appearance vastly increased their exposure in the U.S. and cemented the band's place in the post-punk pantheon. An extended hiatus from 1991 has only been interrupted by a brief reunion in the early '00s.
