Initially formed as a loose collective of members from various underground rock groups, LMF became a proper band in 1998—and in contrast to the mannered, commercial Cantopop of that era, this Hong Kong crew were loud, in-your-face and uncompromising. Under the guidance of members MC Yan and DJ Tommy, the group's sound hardened into a hybrid of hip-hop and heavy metal, with incisive lyrics that highlighted the economic and social conditions of the members' working-class lives.
