Warped Tour's heavy hybridisation of punk and metal created a welcoming climate for acts like Cancer Bats, a troupe that inspire moshing and headbanging in equal measure. Emerging in the mid-'00s, the Toronto outfit wield quicksand riffs, churning bass grooves and throat-shredding vocals to craft fierce hardcore punk (the pile-driving "Pneumonia Hawk") and slo-mo sludge rock ("Lucifer's Rocking Chair"). In a further show of their versatility, the band also occasionally transform into a faithful Black Sabbath tribute act named Bat Sabbath, and have been known to unleash a snarling take on the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage".
