The late Bert Jansch's influence on modern folk music, folk rock and the singer/songwriter movement is so profound and pervasive as to be incalculable. Over the course of his approximately 45-year career, the Scot cultivated a singular style featuring his brilliant fingerpicking, wistful voice and spare songwriting, often stained with aching existential sadness. Though he emerged from the British folk scene of the early '60s, Jansch was a restless explorer; through the decades, he boldly incorporated elements of jazz, blues, country and even world music into his nimble playing.
