Gangway burst into popular culture in 1984 with debut album The Twist. Known for their taut, jangly riffs and love of British bands, the Danish group carved a niche for themselves as quirky purveyors of New Wave rock. Their most popular song, 1986's "My Girl and Me", blends The Smiths-style guitar riffs and dramatic synths with wry lyrics and art-pop appeal. In the '90s, songs like the whimsical "Come Back As a Dog" found them leaning further towards synth-pop, seemingly inspired by the likes of the Pet Shop Boys.
