Despite the dusty harmonica and twangy dobro in this sophisticated Scottish pop-rock group's 1989 debut single, "I Don't Want a Lover", there's a whole lot more Motown than country in Texas thanks to smoky-voiced vocal powerhouse Sharleen Spiteri. The hooks just keep on coming in the Tamla-flavoured "Black Eyed Boy", Spiteri's reverently soulful version of Al Green's "Tired of Being Alone" and the church-bell-punctuated, dark pop bliss of "Summer Son".
