Ever since touring with her brother’s rock band at age 12, POCAH’s life seemed destined to be defined by music. So it’s perhaps little surprise that she’s gone on to become such a vibrant and pioneering symbol of modern Brazilian pop. Formerly known as MC Pocahontas, the Paracambi native’s distinctive blend of baile funk and funk ostentação takes its main influence from western R&B. Her high-tempo pop brims with swagger and verve, from paeans to self-empowerment like “Não Sou Obrigada” and DENNIS hook-up “Jogar Pra Tropa” to the bold, assertive hip-hop of “Quer mais?” and “Tô Tarada”.
