Emerging during the mid ‘90s, Cor Veleno brought America’s hardcore rap explosion to Italy, typifying Roman rap’s brutal vocal delivery and pounding beats, as epitomised by brash kickdrums, sinister trumpets and relentless bars on “42 Gradi”. Meanwhile the synth organ and nonchalant lyricism of “Fammi accendere” sounds as close to acid jazz as it does to rap. Following the retirement in 2014 of founder member Primo Brown, and his subsequent death, in 2018 they proved their familiarity with modern trends: trap banger “Shut Tha F**k Up” features razor 808s and a fresher, throaty flow.
