California's Deftones hit hard in the '90s with one sneaker in alt-rock and the other in nu-metal, but soon their footprints were all over the musical map. At their heaviest, on 1997's Around the Fur, the grinding riffs, hammering drums and rib-rattling screams of frontman Chino Moreno tear through the speakers. Just three years later on “Change (In the House of Flies)” and “Passenger”, the band showed their full range with slower tempos, brooding atmospherics and thrilling quiet/loud dynamics, all while maintaining their metallic edge and formidable attack.
