The Walls Group make the kind of music that instantly puts smiles on faces. It’s welcoming, stylish and full of passion. Judicious in their use of the hip-hop moves so prevalent in contemporary urban gospel, the Houston-bred siblings craft a throwback sound influenced by classic soul. Indeed, the 2019 single “Friend in Me”, with its warmly uplifting vocals and message of companionship, would sound right at home on ’70s radio. But The Walls Group don’t exclusively do crossover material. Their 2014 blockbuster Fast Forward, released on Kirk Franklin’s Fo Yo Soul label, features numerous pieces tailored for traditional worship.
