Few pianists of his generation can match the range, subtlety and technique of Alexandre Tharaud, who was born in 1968. Shot in crisp black-and-white, his video for Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” features acrobatic movements by choreographer Yoann Bourgeois taking centre stage, interspersed with shots of Tharaud’s elegant finger work. Elsewhere, performance footage with Sabine Devieilhe singing Ravel reveals the understatement required of an accompanist.
