SHISHAMO's members were in high school in Kanagawa Prefecture when they started playing together in 2010, and that youthful energy still powers their music—driving indie rock, anchored by a gooey pop centre. The band layer lead singer Asako Miyazaki's honeyed soprano over guitars heavy on the distortion pedal and the fuzzbox. In the bouncy, jangly “Boku, Jitsuwa”, Asako alternately croons and pleads. SHISHAMO also vary the texture of their sweet/fierce sound with horns (“Ashitamo”), violins (“Natsuno Koibito”) and vocal harmonies (“Nakaniwa No Shoujotachi”).
