Modern Talking centres around synth-heavy beats and unabashed Europop style. Formed in 1984, the German duo’s best-known hits arrived the same decade: the super-suave “You’re My Heart, You’re My Soul”, the falsetto vocals of “Cheri Cheri Lady”; and “Brother Louie”, which was re-released in both ‘98 and ‘99. These upbeat bops ran parallel to a rocky relationship which fuelled a 1987 split. A reformation in 2000 found them returning to dance-pop tracks such as “TV Makes the Superstar”—with the addition of a drawling guitar to beef things up.
