With over 20 albums to his name, Bhekumuzi Luthuli’s legacy persists. Honing his skills on a tin guitar as a child, Luthuli joined mbaqanga group Oshimi in the ‘80s. Under the influence of producer Tom Mkhize, he subsequently pursued a solo career that birthed Maskandi classics such as “Imilanjwana” and “Inhliziyo Yami”. As the quintessential storyteller, Luthuli infused his music with a lyricism both anecdotal and poetic, and a sartorial flair worthy of his status as a South African cultural custodian.
