Radney Foster found fame thanks to his smart and craftsman-like approach to country lyrics. He began performing as a college student before heading to Nashville to try his hand as a songwriter. After penning a hit for Sweethearts of the Rodeo, he teamed with fellow MTM Records staff writer Bill Lloyd to form the duo Foster and Lloyd. They scored several hit singles before disbanding in 1990. As Foster went solo, he enjoyed exceptional success with his 1992 debut album and flirted with elements of pop, rock and R&B in later releases.
