Awoken by the light shining through the crack in my door
Pushed open by my clothes I took off the night before
Moving slow I put them on and go to wash my face
With the steam off a coffee cup and a warm familiar taste
Hot inside my body and my blood full of caffeine
I step into the cold sun and the smell of evergreens
With a flash of light
That knocks me down
And like the trees I fell
That once stood tall
The morningtide will show
What burned and what survived

Like the Phoenix I will rise
I grab my axe and shears to cut and thin the trees
And clear away the deadwood I've been carrying for years
I gather all the brush, and vines that twist & turn
And throw them in a pile so I can watch them burn
With the North wind a blowin' and the smell of gasoline
The fumes roll back, I strike that match, it all goes up in flames
With a flash of light
That knocks me down
