I remember one morning in particular at the lakehouse
It was summer there
As it always used to be in my memories of that place
But on this given day I woke up
Visited by a flock of rare migratory birds
They'd chosen to stop off on their flight path
And were sat in an old bark outside my bedroom window
All busy talking to eachother, just saying the same thing
Over and over and over
"I'm here", they said, "I'm here"
"I'm here, now I'm over here"
Thins were coming on top a little bit then
But in the weary worn-out haze of another July hangover
I found solace in their coming to find me
It's stupid really, but it felt like a kinf of message
It was something I really appreciated
I wonder if they still call in at that old house by the water now
If they're still delivering that same message
Over and over and over
Not just to eachother, but an endless number of people feeling low
And a little bit alone
Stretched out across vast continental arrays
A bedroom window waiting list waking up to that same message
Over and over and over
"I'm here"

"I'm here"
Please not this again
He's told this story so many times
His joke he filled in, his heartbreak hotel
Come on, give it some closure
He talks about it like it's his own grace note
Vivid peacocks and a baby grand, is it?
Move on up, try something else
Make a change in your life, instead of living that same one again

It must be every 20 months or so
Good things timed in a cycle
And it comes on top again
But I know where to find it, that old house by the lake
Writing wavers on a breeze in the dead of night
I find solace easy, shivering through the red brook of the dark
And as those rare birds rah like laughing fireworks overhead
I know, I know we're loathers in the air
Life's often a tarot, a cloak with armish price
Wading into the shallows
It's funny, we fly half way 'round the world
And there's just one message that you choose to carry with you
