Drakeo the Ruler is a West Coast rapper Who's been called one of the most singular artists To come out of Los Angeles since Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar Drakeo first earned a boatload of attention for his music That featured a laid-back easy style, distinct delivery Off-beat cadence, and more coded vernacular than you can shake a stick at If you're not familiar with Drakeo the Ruler He's arguably the biggest underground rapper out of California right now Who do you hear with Drakeo? I don't hear anyone with Drakeo, I hear only Drakeo You know? And, like, I mean, there's a cottage industry of rappers trying to sound like Drakeo We all know them, we don't need to mention them I mean, some of them are pretty good actually Like, I mean, there's There's some really great songs That are just people trying to sound like Drakeo Drakeo the Ruler is one of the most influential artists in L.A.'s rap scene Before Drakeo the Ruler would be accused By the state of California of murder And faced the possibility of a life sentence Only to ultimately be acquitted of all charges And still have to cop to a plea deal to get himself out of prison Before Drakeo the Ruler would push past his comfort zone And team up with Drake to release "Talk To Me", an anti-love love song Drakeo the Ruler has been one of the hottest Rappers to come out of Los Angeles since his release from jail in 2020 I'm a celebrity and they were just always like And most of these niggas, I went to school with and shit like that though So it's not like nothing like Not like another rapper that would come to jail, like, and PC up and all that I ain't never did none of that, I know a few people who did though He fought a murder case involving a well-known gang member Drakeo's strong work ethic, unique approach And wordplay helped make him a legend in L.A.'s rap scene And I think Drakeo really taps into the noir tradition you know, of nervous music And, you know, I interviewed him, and he was like "How am I gonna drive around in a hundred thousand dollar car With people trying to kill me? It's a nervous lifestyle"
