Yeah I walk outside and feel the sunlight, raise my arms high Feel the blessings I'm given inside this black life Double consciousness choking up my esophagus Do you know what I mean? I can't breathe Yet I still walk the streets looking mean, uncontrollable They robbed me thrice but I'm still gon' cop a Rollie though They locked the cage door, but Imma keep on flowing though The caged bird sings And raps it's black enough to soak up all those sunbeams It's black enough to say "nigga" and get a trigger pulled, over not a thing That's the circumstance, Mama had no Birkin bags But through all the shit we ate it never hurt to laugh Recently someone asked What it means to be black It's litness But it's a constant target on your back We niggas We take the pressure but we never crack We tend to shine in every place that you could find Like the sunbeams Like the sunbeams Look through my window as I dream about a sunny place Head on my pillow, close my eyes to reach a different space I'll lose my mind staring at this damn wall so I try to fall asleep Roll up, spark up the trees I'm in a vice-grip with all of my vices Outmatched like the new David versus Goliath I'm feeling Small but that's just how my life is I'm trying to live the dream but for now I'm surviving Every season grind season when you on the climb Every demon needs a beating, tryna clear my mind I spend my time trying to sow for future reaping Keep on scheming in my dreaming Maximize all of my breathing, yes I'm plenty fearful of when air's no longer in my chest And so I value every single time I take a breath I know I'm blessed with every morning that I rise Cherish every bit of life Trying to soak up all the light From the sunbeams From the sunbeams
