Sift

Lay me down in the sand So the ocean laps at my feet And the salt corrodes me to bone And pulls me into the sea I'd sink into the blue And sift between the teeth Of the creatures dwelling below And what's left will rest beneath Oh let me down so peacefully Oh I will sink so heavy, so free And the lights will blur until all I see Is what's left here underneath Subterranean man Of bones and fading skin While the world just passes me by I can spend my days learning to swim Again, the muscles can stem From what seems obsolete And someday I'll swim to the shore And I'll find my way, back on my feet And the world will be so bright Like a plight upon my burning eyes And the air will fill my newborn lungs And I'll find a new song to hum Oh and the world moves on So why can't we?
