Lyrics
The government, and I don't know
The council developed this grant
Where you could get £5000 at the time
To buy your own house
So there was a lot of people moving out to the
Kilbarrack, Donaghmede, Tallaght, wherever
And all the people who were left in Ballymun
Were people who didn't really have jobs
Or were single parents
And there were actually a lot of mental health institutes
That were shutting down and people were then being
Accommodated in Ballymun, so over time then what happened was
Ballymun had a huge amount of trauma in the area
Then obviously drug dealers
Probably didn't realise it at the time
But heroin hit the country and it became a very lucrative area
To sell drugs because people with trauma
Use drugs to overcome the psychological pain
And that's what happened
So essentially Ballymun was ghettoised
By the government
