It was not so long ago Just before it rained I laid me down and closed my eyes To the shining sun I remember no wind blow Down upon the plains All the sight was clean and bright And the children were having fun Now the dogs won't stop their barks Where they have to stand I try to shut them up with meat But it's all the same The sky is kind of grey and dark Mamma calls for a hand I hide upstairs and the children run 'Cause they could find no game Now it's still going along I think I'll go insane I don't believe we'll hear again Part of the pouring sun But do not worry for so little When your mamma calls for a hand You better run downstairs to lay the table The supper is on the run It was not so long ago Just before it rained I laid me down and closed my eyes To the shining sun Sun
